Logistics and Transportation undefined
Logistics and Transportation
Petro Sadid is responsible for supplying goods to subcontractors, distributors, intermediary trading companies, or end consumers, wherever they may be in the world. Drawing on our valuable experience in international logistics, we ensure that you will receive the desired goods and products at the specified time and location, along with comprehensive documentation and all necessary inspection and testing certifications. Packaging Transporting large shipments by container Documentation (preparation of documents) Insurance Warehousing Import and export regulations Cargo damage claims Selecting the appropriate LTL group for each shipment at the time of dispatch Collaboration with other supply chain executives Vendor and partner management Responsibility for risk and cost reduction Shipment Documentation In recent years, various companies have collaborated more closely in business processes than in the past, and in such conditions, all incurred costs must be properly analyzed with complete details. Petro Sadid guarantees its clients that the shipping costs to your project site, anywhere worldwide, are the most competitive and cost-effective rates possible. Leveraging our valuable experience, we offer clients all possible shipping options by sea, air, and land (freight trucks). We can fully align with your needs and requirements in this process and pursue any revisions in Incoterms. In these processes, the document preparation phase is considered one of the most critical and sensitive stages, as most products supplied by Petro Sadid form integral parts of structures that often require third-party inspections and government approvals. In most cases, our clients need various types of documents for logistical and financial purposes, such as a Certificate of Origin issued by the Chamber of Commerce. The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) defines logistics as follows: “The process of planning, implementing, and controlling operational actions to effectively and efficiently transport and store goods, including all related services and information from the point of origin to the point of consumption, with the goal of meeting customer needs and requirements.” This definition encompasses all inbound, outbound, internal, and external transfers. What is Transportation and Logistics Management? Understanding the difference between these two concepts seems relatively simple. It can be likened to saying that transportation is the driver of logistics. This analogy effectively highlights the fundamental distinction between the two concepts. Logistics requires planning, while transportation is merely the means to execute that plan to move from point A to point B. It is clear that these two concepts are not the same and should not be used interchangeably. However, it can be inferred that transportation is a component of logistics. When discussing logistics, logistics executives must address issues far beyond the methods of transporting goods, such as: Proforma Invoice: The processes of an export transaction begin when you receive a request to supply one or more of your products. This request may also include a request for a financial estimate. If the request comes from a domestic customer, you will likely have standard financial estimate forms available to review the request. However, if these transactions are with international customers, your financial estimate will be in the form of a proforma invoice. The reason is that your international customer may need a proforma invoice to manage financial processes, such as opening a letter of credit (LC), requesting necessary import permits, etc. Proforma invoices look very similar to commercial invoices, and if completed correctly, they will closely resemble a commercial invoice. A proforma invoice specifies the following details: The buyer and seller of the transaction Detailed description of the goods Type of classification in the Harmonized System for the goods Price Payment terms, which are usually stated in one of the 11 common Incoterms Shipping and delivery details, including how the goods will be shipped, delivery location, and the cost of the process Currency used for the financial estimate (e.g., US dollars) Remember to issue the proforma invoice with a date and an expiration date. Export processes often involve significant instability and fluctuations, so setting a specific timeframe for the financial estimate can help minimize potential risks. Commercial Invoice: After sending the proforma invoice to your international customer and receiving their order, you must prepare the goods for shipment. This preparation includes handling administrative procedures and preparing the documents that must accompany the goods. The commercial invoice is one of the most important of these documents. Commercial invoices often include details of all stages of the export transactions from start to finish. A commercial invoice may look similar to the proforma invoice initially sent to provide a financial estimate to your customers, but it must include additional details that might not have been included earlier. For example, a commercial invoice must specify the order number, purchase order number, or other customer reference numbers. Additionally, it usually includes banking and payment information. Be sure to include any information related to marine insurance and other details that can facilitate the shipment process and ensure timely payment from the customer in the commercial invoice. Packing List: An export packing list typically contains more details than a standard packing list or packing slip used for domestic shipments. Your shipment carrier can use the information in the packing list to prepare the bill of lading for the goods being shipped. Additionally, a bank may require a detailed packing list to be submitted along with the documents provided with a letter of credit for payment purposes. Customs officers can also use the packing list to identify the geographic location of packaged items that need inspection. It’s much more efficient for them to know which package or pallet to open than to search through the entire shipment. The packing list specifies the contents of the packed shipment, along with the net and gross weight of the shipment, and the dimensions of the packages (in both metric units and the U.S. imperial system—i.e., inches). Moreover, the packing list includes any markings on the package and instructions related to the safe handling and delivery of the goods at the destination. Certificate of Origin: In some countries, there are regulations requiring a certificate of origin for shipments to identify the country in which the goods were produced. These certificates of origin usually need to be signed by semi-official organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce or the consulate office of the respective country. Additionally, even if you’ve mentioned the country of origin within the commercial invoice, a certificate of origin may still be required. Typically, the Chamber of Commerce charges a fee for stamping and signing the certificate, or it may require you to become a member first. To obtain the Chamber of Commerce's stamp and signature, you must submit a completed form; this form is then signed and stamped by the Chamber of Commerce and may even need to be notarized. There are rumors of companies possessing a stockpile of unsigned, pre-stamped certificates from the Chamber of Commerce, or in some cases, having access to the Chamber's stamp. Be aware that these practices are illegal and may lead to the disqualification of the Chamber of Commerce involved from issuing such certificates. Shipper’s Letter of Instruction (SLI): One of the most important people you’ll collaborate with during the export process is your shipping agent. This person is responsible for coordinating the transportation of your goods with the relevant individuals or organizations and assists you in handling and overseeing all related details. Regardless of who hires the shipping agent, it is crucial to provide them with the Shipper’s Letter of Instruction (SLI). This letter contains all the necessary information for the successful transportation and delivery of your shipment. Bill of Lading: The bill of lading documents generally fall into three categories: ground, ocean, and air. Ground Bill of Lading The ground bill of lading is usually the first transportation document required for the international shipment of your exported goods. This document can be prepared by the ground carrier or by the exporter themselves. It serves as a transportation contract between the exporter and the carrier, specifying the destination of the shipment. Additionally, it acts as a receipt indicating that the goods have been received from you. In international shipping, the ground bill of lading is typically not given to the buyer; instead, it is provided to the party responsible for moving the goods across international borders, or indirectly to the shipping agent, warehouse, or a third party that delivers the goods to the carrier at the scheduled time. Ocean Bill of Lading If your goods are being shipped by sea, you will need an ocean bill of lading. This document serves both as a contract of carriage and as a document of title for the shipment. Ocean bills of lading can be classified into two types: Straight Bill of Lading: This is issued to a specific consignee and is non-negotiable. The consignee, based on the original, signed bill of lading in their possession, is considered the owner of the goods by the carrier. Negotiable Bill of Lading: This bill is issued "to order" or "to order of shipper," signed by the shipper, and sent to a bank in the buyer's country. The bank retains the original bill of lading until the requirements of documentary collection or the necessary documents or letter of credit (LC) are fulfilled. Air Waybill: Goods shipped by air require an air waybill. Unlike the ocean bill of lading, the air waybill is non-negotiable. It serves as a contract for the shipment between the shipper and the carrier. Forms for Dangerous Goods: If your products are classified as dangerous goods by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) or the International Maritime Organization (IMO), you must attach the specific form related to dangerous goods to your shipment. Shipping dangerous goods or hazardous materials is a sensitive process. Before proceeding, the relevant personnel in your company should be trained on proper packaging, labeling, and documentation for such shipments. The IATA form (Shipper's Declaration for Dangerous Goods) is mandatory for air shipments. A different version of this form is used for sea shipments. It is important to note that these forms must be completed by someone who has received the necessary training in managing the transport of dangerous goods. Bank Draft: A bank draft constitutes an essential part of the international sales process, aimed at transferring control and ownership of the exported goods from the seller to the buyer in exchange for the agreed payment. This draft is often referred to as a documentary collection, as the seller attaches various documents to the bank draft and cover letter in this process. Typically, the seller’s bank sends this bank draft and the attached documents through the shipment handler to the buyer’s bank, or a bank with which the buyer has financial relations in their country. Once the buyer authorizes the payment for the goods, the buyer’s bank releases the documents to the buyer and transfers the paid amount to the seller’s bank. It is worth mentioning that the bank draft may also include an assignment letter, which encompasses details related to the bank draft transaction and specifies the type of attached documents and payment instructions.
Inspection undefined
Inspection
Whenever there is a need for an inspection process in various areas such as material control, permits, packaging, labeling, etc., within a project, our Quality Control Department at Petro Sadid will collaborate with the inspection representative appointed by the clients to carry out this task effectively. We track the inspection and testing operations of the project daily and also ask our partners to provide the necessary information and reports in this regard within the specified timeframe. Additionally, in the field of manufacturing, the company utilizes a team of specialized quality control experts to review all production stages according to the needs and requirements of the clients.
